Household pesticides are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and all approved pesticides for household use are posted in the FDA website (http://www.fda.gov.ph/consumers-corner/registered-household-hazardous). All consumers are advised to buy only household pesticides that have market authorization issued by the FDA.
Household pesticides are designed to kill or adversely affect insects and arachnids found at home, some of which are known vectors of infectious diseases like malaria, chikungunya, Japanese encephalitis and dengue. By their nature, these household products may pose some risk to household members and pet animals.
The FDA has ensured that exposure to these potentially hazardous substances are reduced to acceptable safe levels through approved product labels. The product labels contain pertinent information that serve as guide to safe and effective use of household pesticides. It is important that household members read and understand product labels before using them. For aerosol sprays, follow the instruction on the label on re-entry time, if not available, observe 30 minutes after spraying. Read the precautionary statements and restrictions on the labels. SHCaDA
Consumers are advised to store household hazardous substances away from reach of children and pet animals. Pregnant women are advised to avoid exposure to pesticides and other household hazardous substances. Avoid exposing toys and food products from pesticides. It is important to remember that mosquito coils are designed for use in well-ventilated areas preferably with open windows.
All household hazardous containers should be tightly reclosed after opening them, and no transferring of content from one container to another should be allowed. Dispose used household hazardous containers properly, away from the reach of scavengers and stray dogs.
In case of emergency, call your local emergency service or bring the patient to the nearest hospital for appropriate treatment. Be sure to act fast and show the product container to the attending physician.
