Celebration of the 6th Centennial of the Coming of Islam to the Philippines

LETTER OF INSTRUCTIONS NO. 890

RELATIVE TO THE CELEBRATION OF THE SIXTH CENTENNIAL OF THE COMING OF ISLAM TO THE PHILIPPINES AND THE FOURTEENTH CENTENNIAL OF THE ISLAMIC HEGIRA

WHEREAS, the sixth century of the coming of Islam to the Philippines will fall on 1980;

WHEREAS, the Government of the Republic of the Philippines is committed to the enhancement of the Filipino Muslim community and moreover recognizes Islam as one of the Major sources of Filipino culture; cd

WHEREAS, the international Muslim community will be celebrating the fourteenth century anniversary of the Islamic Hegira in 1980; and

WHEREAS, this international celebration gives us the opportunity to show our solidarity and fraternity with the Muslim world;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby issue the following instructions:

1. The Regional Autonomous Governments of Region 9 and 12 and the Institute of Islamic Studies of the University of the Philippines shall:

a. Submit within thirty (30) days from the date hereof, to the President, a detailed program for the year-long commemoration of the sixth century of the coming of Islam to the Philippines and the fourteenth anniversary of the Hegira. cd

b. Submit to the President within thirty (30) days from the date hereof, the detailed budget of the aforesaid program.

2. The Regional Autonomous Government of Regions 9 and 12 and the Institute of Islamic Studies of UP, in consultation with each other, may tap the resources and services of all government instrumentalities and agencies, as the need arises, for the year-long commemoration of the two events.

3. This Letter of Instruction shall take effect immediately.
