Authorizing Minors to Deposit With and Withdraw From Banks
Presidential Decree No. 734, issued on June 25, 1975, authorizes minors aged seven and older, who can read and write and possess sufficient discretion, to independently deposit and withdraw funds from banks. This decree aims to encourage the youth to develop savings habits and contribute to economic growth, thereby promoting the national virtue of thrift. Despite existing laws that typically restrict minors' legal capacity, this decree allows them to engage in banking transactions without parental or guardian assistance, although parents may still deposit on behalf of their children. The decree took effect immediately upon issuance.
