August 11, 2008 as Special (Non-Working) Day in the Province of Samar
Proclamation No. 1566, issued on July 30, 2008, declares August 11, 2008, as a special (non-working) day in the Province of Samar. This date marks the 12th anniversary of "Samar Day," commemorating the province's independence from Leyte and Cebu, declared by Spain in 1841. The proclamation aims to provide the people of Samar the opportunity to celebrate this significant occasion with appropriate ceremonies. The declaration is made by Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita, under the authority of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

DECLARING MONDAY, AUGUST 11, 2008, AS SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY IN THE PROVINCE OF SAMAR
WHEREAS, Spain declared Samar as a province independent of Leyte and Cebu on August 11, 1841, which occasion is now celebrated in the Province of Samar as "Samar Day";
WHEREAS, Monday, August 11, 2008, marks the 12th Samar Day anniversary of the Province of Samar; ACTESI
WHEREAS, it is but fitting and proper that the people of the Province of Samar be given full opportunity to celebrate the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDUARDO R. ERMITA, Executive Secretary, by authority of Her Excellency, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, do hereby declare Monday, August 11, 2008, as special (non-working) day in the Province of Samar.
