Approval of Training Courses Pursuant to STCW Convention Manila Amendments
MARINA Advisory No. 17-13, issued on September 13, 2013, informs all stakeholders in the maritime industry, including seafarers and training institutions, that training courses not compliant with the 2010 Manila Amendments of the STCW Convention will not be recognized for STCW Certificate issuance. Specifically, this includes various basic and advanced training courses for oil, chemical, and liquefied gas tanker operations, as well as management level courses for deck and engine. Maritime Education and Training Institutions (METIs) are required to submit updated curricula for these courses to MARINA for approval. The advisory took effect immediately following its publication.

| SUBJECT | : | Approval of Training Courses Pursuant to STCW Convention Manila Amendments |
Pursuant to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978, as amended, and further to MARINA Advisory No. 2013-06 issued on 08 May 2013:
1. All concerned are hereby informed that the following education and training courses that are not updated to, or compliant with, the requirements of the 2010 Manila Amendments of the STCW Convention shall not be recognized for issuance of STCW Certificates:
a. Basic Training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations;
b. Basic Training for Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations;
c. Advanced Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations; CaEIST
d. Advanced Training for Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations;
e. Advanced Training for Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations;
f. Management Level Course (MLC) Deck; and
g. Management Level Course (MLC) Engine.
2. Concerned METIs are directed to submit for approval by MARINA, updated curricula for the above courses that are compliant with the requirements of the 2010 Manila Amendments of the STCW Convention.
This Advisory shall take effect immediately upon publication in a newspaper of general circulation.
