Republic Act No. 8224, enacted on November 6, 1996, officially renames Circumferential Route No. 5 (C-5) in Metro Manila to President Garcia Avenue. This change honors President Carlos P. Garcia for his significant contributions as a congressman, senator, vice-president, and president, including his role as the first president of the 1971 Constitutional Convention. The act is effective immediately upon approval and was published in the Official Gazette on January 20, 1997.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8224

AN ACT RENAMING THE CIRCUMFERENTIAL ROUTE NO. 5 OR C-5 IN METRO MANILA, AS THE PRESIDENT GARCIA AVENUE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

SECTION 1. President Carlos P. Garcia served with distinction as congressman, senator, vice-president, and president of the Republic of the Philippines. He was also the first president of the 1971 Constitutional Convention. cd i

SECTION 2. To perpetuate his memory, the Circumferential Route No. 5 or C-5 in Metro Manila, is hereby renamed as the President Garcia Avenue.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
