ACT NO. 2166
AN ACT DIRECTING THE INSULAR TREASURER TO COLLECT CERTAIN SUMS BORROWED FROM THE SO-CALLED "CAJAS DE COMUNIDAD," AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
SECTION 1. The Insular Treasurer is hereby directed to negotiate in representation of the Government of the Philippine Islands with the debtors of the so-called "Cajas de Comunidad" of the late Spanish Government in these Islands for the repayment of certain sums together with the interests thereon received by them as a loan: Provided, That in case said Treasurer believes it necessary to appeal to the courts of justice for the collection of such sums, he is hereby authorized to do so.
SECTION 2. The amounts recovered or received by the Insular Treasurer by virtue of the provisions of the next preceding section shall be deposited in the Insular Treasury as miscellaneous receipts, and be used to meet appropriations made by the Legislature for charitable purposes and public instruction.
SECTION 3. The Insular Treasurer is hereby required to account to the Governor-General for the result of his negotiation under the provisions hereof.
