Amendments to the Philippine Tariff Act of 1909
Act No. 3429, enacted on January 4, 1928, amends the Philippine Tariff Act of 1909 concerning wharfage charges. It establishes a duty of one dollar per gross ton on exported goods, excluding coal, timber, cement, and iron ore, when shipped from Philippine ports to the United States or its possessions. Additionally, goods used by the U.S. Government or the Philippine Government are exempt from these charges. ACT NO. 3429
AN ACT AMENDING CERTAIN PROVISIONS OF THE PHILIPPINE TARIFF ACT OF NINETEEN HUNDRED AND NINE RELATING TO CHARGES FOR WHARFAGE
SECTION 1. Section fourteen of the Philippine Tariff Act of nineteen hundred and nine is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SEC. 14. That there shall be levied and collected upon all articles, goods, wares, or merchandise, except coal, timber, cement, and iron ore, the product of the Philippine Islands, exported through ports of entry of the Philippine Islands, or shipped therefrom to the United States or any of its possessions, a duty of one dollar per gross ton of one thousand kilos, as a charge for wharfage, whatever be the port of destination or nationality of the exporting vessel: Provided, That articles, goods, wares, or merchandise imported, exported, or shipped in transit for the use of the Government of the United States, or of that of the Philippine Islands, shall be exempt from the charges prescribed in this section."
SECTION 2. All acts and regulations or parts thereof, inconsistent with the provisions of this Act, are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. When this Act shall have been approved by the President of the United States, as provided in section nine of the Act of Congress of August twenty-ninth, nineteen hundred and sixteen, such fact shall be made known by proclamation of the Governor-General of the Philippine Islands, and this Act shall take effect on the date of such proclamation. 1
