Amendments to Act No. 2427 (The Insurance Act)
Republic Act No. 171, enacted on June 20, 1947, amends specific provisions of the Insurance Act regarding the rescission of insurance contracts. It stipulates that insurers must exercise their right to rescind a contract before any legal action is initiated, and after two years of a life insurance policy being in force, they cannot claim it is void due to fraudulent concealment or misrepresentation. Additionally, it establishes that policies become incontestable after being active for two years, with exceptions for non-payment of premiums and military service violations. This law applies to all existing life and endowment insurance contracts upon its approval.
