Act No. 1899, enacted on May 18, 1909, amends Section 126 of the Internal Revenue Law of 1904 regarding taxation of insurance companies in the Philippines. It establishes a 1% tax on total premiums collected by insurance companies, which must be paid by July 1 of the following year. Notably, the amendment specifies that premiums refunded within six months due to risk rejection are not taxable. Additionally, it states that no further tax is required for reinsurance by companies that have already paid the tax on initial insurance. This law took effect on July 1, 1909.
