Amendment to Revised Administrative Code Re: Duties of Vice Mayor
Republic Act No. 131, enacted on June 14, 1947, amends Section 2434(a) of the Revised Administrative Code regarding the role of the vice mayor in the Philippines. It stipulates that the vice mayor will assume the duties of the mayor during the mayor's sickness, absence, or temporary incapacity, as well as in the event of a definitive vacancy. If the vice mayor is also incapacitated or if their position is vacant, the city engineer will take over the mayor's duties. The vice mayor is appointed by the President with the consent of the Commission on Appointments and is entitled to a salary not exceeding 7,200 pesos annually. The Act took effect upon its approval.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 131
AN ACT AMENDING SECTION TWO THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED THIRTY-FOUR (a) OF THE REVISED ADMINISTRATIVE CODE
SECTION 1. Section two thousand four hundred thirty-four (a) of the Revised Administrative Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 2434. (a). Vice mayor. — There shall be a vice-mayor who shall perform the duties of the mayor, in the event of the sickness, absence or other temporary incapacity of the mayor, or in the event of a definitive vacancy in the position of mayor, until said office shall be filled, in accordance with law. If, for any reason, the vice-mayor is temporarily incapacitated for the performance of the duties of the office of the mayor, or said office of the vice-mayor is vacant, the duties of the mayor, shall be performed by the city engineer. The acting mayor shall have the same powers and duties as the mayor. casia
The vice-mayor shall perform such other duties as may be assigned upon him by the mayor or prescribed by law or ordinance. He shall be appointed by the President of the Philippines with the consent of the Commission on Appointments of the Congress of the Philippines and shall receive a salary of not more than seven thousand two hundred pesos a year."
SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
