Amendment to R.A. No. 1392 (Tax Exemption for Textiles Made of 100% Philippine Ramie Fiber)
Republic Act No. 2353, enacted on June 20, 1959, amends previous legislation to provide further exemptions from customs duties for textiles made entirely of Philippine ramie fiber. Specifically, it allows for the duty-free importation of ramie goods processed abroad, provided they are sourced directly from local farmers or their cooperatives. The act stipulates that these benefits apply only to excess production beyond local requirements and establishes conditions under which the exemptions may cease if sufficient local processing facilities are developed. Additionally, dollar allocations for processing are contingent upon certification from the Philippine Embassy in Japan regarding processing agreements. The act aims to incentivize the growth of the ramie industry in the Philippines.
