Amendment to R.A. 70 Re: Need for Physician or Nurse in Complement of Philippine-Registered Vessels
Republic Act No. 233, enacted on June 9, 1948, amends an earlier law regarding the requirements for vessels engaged in coastwise trade in the Philippines. It stipulates that any Philippine-registered vessel with a capacity of 150 or more passengers must carry a physician, while vessels carrying between 75 to 149 passengers must have a male nurse. Vessels with fewer than 75 passengers are not required to have medical personnel on board. This amendment aims to ensure the safety and health of passengers on longer voyages. The law took effect upon its approval.
