PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1560
AMENDING SECTION 16(d) OF PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 97, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE PHILIPPINE MERCHANT MARINE OFFICERS LAW" *
WHEREAS, Section 16(d) of Presidential Decree No. 97, otherwise known as the Philippine Merchants Marine Officers Law requires an applicant for Third Mate examination to undergo eighteen months of practical apprenticeship on board merchant vessels of not less than two hundred fifty gross tons, four months of which will be on overseas and at least four months on a coastwise registered vessel; and cdt
WHEREAS, the aforementioned requirement may be undertaken after passing the examinations as a prerequisite for the registration and issuance of a license or certificate;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution, do hereby order and decree:
SECTION 1. Section 16(d) of Presidential Decree No. 97 is hereby amended to read as follows:
"(d) Third Mate. — Applicant must be a holder of a degree of Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation, major in Navigation and Seamanship, after completion of a nautical curriculum of academic and theoretical studies: Provided, That no successful examinee or candidate shall be registered and issued a license or certificate without having undertaken twelve months of practical apprenticeship which must be served with at least four months on mechant marine vessels of not less than two hundred fifty gross tons registered for foreign trade, and at least four months on merchant marine vessels of not less than two hundred fifty gross tons registered for coastwise trade, such apprenticeship to be under the direct supervision of a permanent staff of the institution assigned solely for such purpose."
SECTION 2. This Decree shall take effect immediately.
