PROFESSIONAL REGULATORY BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS RESOLUTION NO. 114-04
AMENDING RES. NO. 02, SERIES OF 1996 BY REVISING THE PERCENTAGE WEIGHTS OF PRINCIPLES AND STRATEGIES OF TEACHING AND SOCIAL PHILOSOPHIES: THE COMPETENCIES TO BE TESTED IN THE SUBJECT PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION GIVEN IN THE LICENSURE EXAMINATION FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS
WHEREAS, pursuant to Sec. 2, Art. II of R.A. No. 7836, known as the "Philippine Teachers Professional Act of 1994", the Board issued Resolution No. 02, Series of 1996, entitled "Adoption of Syllabus for Each Subject of the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers"; HIESTA
WHEREAS, after consultation with the academe, the Board decided to align the Licensure Examination for Teachers to the teacher education curriculum;
WHEREAS, the syllabus of the subject Professional Education has four (4) competencies to be tested, namely:
1. Foundation of Education and Human Growth and Development — 25%
2. Principles and Strategies of Teaching — 25%
3. Measurement and Evaluation — 25%
4. Social Philosophies — 25%;
WHEREAS, most of the academic units of the professional education component in the teacher education curriculum are focused on Principles and Strategies of Teaching;
WHEREAS, the 25% weight of Social Philosophies is not proportionate to the three (3) to six (6) academic units of Social Philosophies in the teacher education curriculum. Moreover, several competencies in Social Philosophies are already subsumed in Foundation of Education and in General Education;
WHEREAS, the reduction of the percentage weight of Social Philosophies and the increase of percentage weight of Principles and Strategies of Teaching will enhance the content validity of the said Examination;
WHEREFORE, the Board hereby RESOLVED, as it now RESOLVES, to amend Res. No. 02, series of 1996 by reducing the percentage weight of Social Philosophies from 25% to 15% and to increase the percentage weight of Principles and Strategies of Teaching from 25% to 35%: competencies to be tested in the subject Professional Education commonly given in the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers in the elementary and secondary levels. The said revision of percentage points shall be adopted and used in the Licensure Examinations for Professional Teachers starting August 29, 2004.
This Resolution shall take effect after fifteen (15) days following its complete and full publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.
Let copies of this Resolution be furnished the Office of Professional Teachers (OPT), PRC Regional Offices, and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for dissemination to all schools, colleges and universities offering teacher education curriculum. AHcCDI
