Adopting the Spanish Colonial Type of Architecture on All Buildings to be Constructed, Altered, or Repaired in Intramuros, Manila
Commonwealth Act No. 171, enacted on November 12, 1936, mandates that all buildings constructed, altered, or repaired in the Intramuros district of Manila must adhere to the Spanish colonial architectural style. The Act emphasizes the importance of preserving this architectural heritage as a significant part of the city's historic identity. All building plans must receive approval from the consulting architect of the National Government, ensuring compliance with the specified style. If alterations or repairs affect the building's facade, they must conform to the Spanish colonial design; otherwise, they should match the existing architectural style. This law highlights the commitment to maintaining the cultural legacy of Intramuros.
