2017 OBSERVANCE OF ARAW NG KAGITINGAN AND PHILIPPINE VETERANS WEEK CELEBRATION

1.0 Background

Pursuant to Executive Order No. 2013 s. 1987 and Presidential Proclamation No. 466 s. 1989, the whole nation observes April 9 of every year as Araw ng Kagitingan, and the period April 5 to 11 as Philippine Veterans Week. ICHDca

2.0 Purpose

The purpose of the policy is to enjoin all DILG Offices, ARMM Regional Government and local government units, to support the said event.

3.0 Scope/Coverage

All Provincial Governors, City and Municipal Mayors, DILG Regional Directors, ARMM Regional Governor, and all others concerned.

4.0 Policy Content and Guidelines

4.1 On April 9, 2017, His Excellency Rodrigo Roa Duterte will lead the Commemoration of the Araw of Kagitingan in Mount Samat National Shrine, Pilar, Bataan, with the theme, "75th Araw ng Kagitingan: Parangal sa mga Beterano Tungo sa Bayan na Nararapat sa Pilipino, Pilipino na Nararapat sa Bayan". The 2017 observance of the above said events will comprise of meaningful activities intended to promote, preserve and memorialize the principles, ideals and heroic deeds of our Filipino war veterans.

4.2 In line with this, all Local Chief Executives are hereby encouraged to conduct simple but meaningful activities such as, but not limited to, the display of streamers in front of the provincial, city or municipal halls, posting of related commemorative information materials in LGU websites, wreath-laying and commemorating rites, and other such activities in their respective localities.

4.3 All DILG officials and personnel as well as the DILG Technical Working Group member, including local officials of various Local Government Units (LGUs) of Bataan are enjoined to participate in the said event.

This Memorandum Circular shall take effect immediately.
