Corona v. Senate of the Phils.
This is a civil case filed by Chief Justice Renato C. Corona against the Senate of the Philippines, sitting as an Impeachment Court, and other respondents. The case involves the issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO) to prevent the Senate from proceeding with the impeachment trial of the Chief Justice. The Supreme Court granted the motion of the Senate for an extension of five days to file a comment on the petition. The Court also noted the comment filed by the Bank of the Philippines Islands and the manifestation ad cautelam ex superabundanti filed by the Office of the Solicitor General for the public respondents. The legal issue in this case is whether the Supreme Court has the power to issue a TRO to stop the impeachment trial of a Chief Justice.
