Manager S i r s : In reply to your request for clarification regarding the proper application of the value-added tax with respect to your carton manufacturing activity, please be informed of the following: 1. The sale of corrugated box is not exempt from VAT since the exemption privilege granted to the seller of live day old chicks under Section 103 (b) of the Tax Code as amended by E.O. 273, is limited only to the taxes to which it is directly liable. 2. Your sale of corrugated boxes to a BOI registered export producer of frozen shrimps and bangus can be zero rated only if you apply for zero-rating on such sales with the VAT Division, BIR.
