Strict Economy in the Use of Electric Current and Office Supplies

September 2, 1973 REVENUE MEMORANDUM ORDER NO. 36-73 SUBJECT : Strict Economy in the Use of Electric Current and Office Supplies TO : All Internal Revenue Officers and Employees In order to conserve electric current and to effect economy in the expenditure of public funds, it is desired that utmost economy in the use of electric current be strictly observed. For this purpose, the following instructions on the use of electric energy are hereby promulgated for compliance by all concerned: 1. All electric lights, with the exception of a few, enough to illuminate the room, and electric fans should be turned off during noon break when the employees are out for lunch; 2. Electric lights should be turned off in offices which have no need for light during certain hours of the day; 3. During night time only few lights in the corridors should be on and when daylight comes, the security guards on duty should see to it that all lights in the corridors are turned off; and 4. After the close of business, all electric lights, fans and air conditioning units should be turned off. Likewise, it is also directed that the indiscriminate use of office supplies be avoided. For instance, the blank side of mimeographed issuances and various forms which are already obsolete can be utilized as scratch papers. Strict economy in the use of letter head, bond paper, onion skin and folder as well as paper clips, erasers, paper fasteners and other supplies must be observed. Wastage of these supplies can be avoided if we are careful. It is, therefore, hereby directed that all Revenue Operations Heads, Regional Directors, Chiefs of Divisions and Units and Revenue District Officers shall see to it that the above instructions are strictly adhered to.
