September 14, 1967 REVENUE MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 40-67 SUBJECT : Publishing Republic Act No. 4907, Amending Section 147 of the National Internal Revenue Code TO : All Internal Revenue Officers and Others Concerned For the information and guidance of all concerned, there is quoted hereunder Republic Act No. 4907: LLphil "Republic Act No. 4907 "AN ACT TO FURTHER AMEND SECTION ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-SEVEN OF COMMONWEALTH ACT NUMBERED FOUR HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SIX, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE NATIONAL INTERNAL REVENUE CODE. " Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled : "SECTION I. Section one hundred and forty-seven of Commonwealth Act Numbered Four hundred and sixty-six, otherwise known as the National Internal Revenue Code, as amended, is hereby further amended to read as follows: "SEC. 147. Specific Tax on Playing Cards . (a) On each pack of cards regardless of the size thereof containing not more than sixty cards, there shall be collected a tax of three pesos. "(b) On each pack containing more than sixty cards, there shall be collected the tax established in subsection (a) and a proportionate additional tax on the number in excess of sixty: Provided , however , That the maximum amount that shall be collected on one pack shall not exceed seven pesos. "Sec. 2. This Act shall take effect upon its approval. cdta "Approved, June 17, 1967." Features of the Amendment Under the amendment, the specific tax on each pack of cards, regardless of the size thereof, containing not more than sixty cards, is only three pesos; and the specific tax on each pack containing more than sixty cards, is three pesos plus a proportionate additional amount on the cards in excess of sixty. The law further provides that the maximum amount that shall be collected on one pack shall not exceed seven pesos. Before the amendment, the specific tax on each pack of cards was ten pesos; and on each pack containing more than sixty cards, the tax was ten pesos and a proportionate additional tax on the cards in excess of sixty. Effectivity Republic Act No. 4907 took effect on June 17, 1967. Enforcement and Publicity All internal revenue officers and others charged with the enforcement of the internal revenue laws are hereby enjoined to give this Circular as wide a publicity as possible. cdti (SGD.)
