October 12, 1998 PSE MEMO FOR BROKERS NO. 465-98 SUBJECT : Changes to Marketworks Please be informed of the following changes in the PC Marketworks program effective today. This is to correctly reflect the foreign ownership level monitoring of stocks with common and preferred shares (eg. TEL, CBC, DMC). 1. For stocks with common and preferred shares, the 'Total Outstanding Shares' and the ' Shares Available to Foreign ' fields will be composed of the common shares plus the preferred shares. This composite total will be reflected on the stock information screen of the common stock. The 'Total Outstanding Shares' field of the preferred stock will still display the outstanding preferred shares. 2. The percentage shown in the 'Shares Available to Foreign Field' will be computed as follows: shares still available to foreigners outstanding shares The prior definition of the percentage shown in the 'Shares Available to Foreign' field was: shares still available to foreigners shares that may be owned by foreigners 3. The 'Shares Still Available to Foreign' field will not be able to preferred stocks. To be able to view this information, the stock information window will prompt the to user to refer to the stock information screen of the common stock, as shown below. Stock information screen will prompt user to refer to common stock. Note: There may be instances when the displayed amount of foreign shares available exceed the maximum allowable shares (greater than 100% left) or displayed amount may have a negative value. This sometimes occurs because the trading system does not control nor impose restrictions on the order entry and execution even if the limits are about to be breached. There are also instances when the end-of-month data from the transfer agent does not reconcile with the existing data in which case the values are checked for update.
