April 19, 1999 PSE CIRCULAR FOR BROKERS NO. 797-99 PRESS RELEASE PLDT CLARIFIES NEWS REPORT Manila, Friday, April 16, 1999 - Philippines Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company ("PLDT") denied today a news report that it has failed to disclose important information regarding Pilipino Telephone Corporation ("Piltel") for which it should be fined. PLDT has not received any order or communication from the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission finding PLDT in violation of the SEC Rules regarding disclosures. LLpr PLDT and its Board of Directors are fully aware of their responsibility to ensure that developments or transactions requiring a public disclosure are disclosed to the Exchange and the investing public at the appropriate time and in the appropriate manner.
