March 27, 2000 PSE CIRCULAR FOR BROKERS NO. 791-00 RAD Partners with Cisco and Datacraft to Build New ATM Broadband Network in the Philippines Globe Telecom Will Deploy RAD's Multiservice Access Platform, Supporting Data, ISDN, Frame Relay, IP, ATM and Voice with Full Management via a Single Management Station Globe Telecom, Inc. of the Philippines will be incorporating RAD Data Communications' Multiservice Access Platform (MAP) together with Cisco Systems' Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) backbone switches and concentrators into its new multi-service digital data network. An initial US$6.2 million contract has been signed by Globe Telecom and Datacraft Communications Systems Inc., a RAD distributor in the Philippines, which will build the network. Globe Telecom's data network is designed to be a nationwide broadband facility implementing ATM technology, which provides multi-service capability enabling the company to extend integrated solutions for voice, data and video. Globe Telecom's new network will include RAD's Megaplex-2100 Multiplexers, HTU HDSL Termination Units, LRS-12 Modem Racks and ASMi-31-2 Intelligent Modems. "This is a major strategic project for us," states Gil Itkin, General Manager of RAD Far East. Itkin predicts that MAP "will enhance the utilization of Globe's infrastructure and services that Globe provides its customers and will be the platform for new services that Globe may want to provide in the future." "This is the second network that RAD will be supplying to Globe Telecom," states Jesus C. Romero, Globe Telecom's Assistant Vice President - Corporate Sales and Marketing. "RAD's advantage is their flexibility in providing solution for any application that we may have in the market, for instance they modified their IDSL modem allowing Globe to have end-to-end management." Itkin notes that RAD's Multiservice Access Platform was chosen by Globe Telecom because MAP "provides flexibility in the access layer." MAP, which is already employed by many carriers in Asia, supports various services such as data, ISDN, Frame Relay, IP, ATM and voice. In addition, the RAD solution affords full management of all elements, including Network Termination Units at the customer premises, via a single management station. "We have held intensive field trials together with Cisco," Itkin says, "and the tests have shown that RAD's RADView SNMP management system and the Cisco management system are totally interoperable and compatible," Itkin adds, "and this ensures full end-to-end management throughout the-network." The new infrastructure will enable Globe Telecom to deliver ATM service, Frame Relay, SNA (Systems Network Architecture), Voice, Leased Lines, as well as New World technology solutions such as Internet Protocol (IP), Virtual Private Network, Managed Network and Premium Internet solutions. Through MSDDN, Globe Telecom will also have the advantage of being able to configure and implement services up to the customer premise.
