The new Globe Mobile Chat service, which will make use of Globe Handyphone's text messaging or SMS (Short Message Service) capability, is a virtual discussion forum that allows users to chat anonymously on their mobile phones through the exchange of text messages. Unlike in normal text messaging applications, information about message senders, such as the originating phone number, will not be reflected in the Mobile Chat service messages. Instead, nicknames or codenames will be used by the Globe chatters in identifying themselves and each other while using the Mobile Chat service. Globe Mobile Chat Service is similar to a normal Internet chat- service, where a mobile phone user can send a message to other people without revealing his real name or contact number. Also like Internet chatting, the service will provide different rooms with numerous discussion topics where chat users know only the nicknames of the other persons in the room. "Being the digital leader, Globe Handyphone continues to provide our subscribers with state-of-the-art Value Added Services," said GLOBE TELECOM Vice President for Sales and Marketing Charles Lim. "The Globe Mobile Chat Service takes the popularity of chat services one step further by making it available simply via a Globe Handyphone," said Lim. "With our service, Globe Handyphone subscribers can now chat with over 1 million subscribers anytime and anywhere. This is an exclusive service available only from Globe Handyphone, the first and only provider of Mobile Chat Service in the Philippines," he added. For the Globe Mobile Chat service, Globe Handyphone will be making available an initial 11 chat rooms to cater to a wide variety of topics and interests. These chat rooms include GenTEXT , a general chat room for all; TV , for television show addicts; Movies , for movie enthusiasts; Music , for the musically-inclined; Sports , for sports-minded chatters; Teens; Yuppies; Trends, for fashion and beauty connoisseurs; Mallers, for those who like hanging out in malls; Gimmicks ; and Dates . SHECcD In using Globe's Mobile Chat Services, a user registers at the chat service by texting in a nickname to Globe's '2323' service number. Users can also view a list of available chat rooms and join these chat rooms by texting in the correct key words. A Chat Room must be joined before one can chat with others. Chatters can also request from '2323' a list of people who are currently discussing in a chat room. Users can send messages either to one or several chatmates at the same time. Users can also opt to quit the chat rooms anytime or even permanently quit and exit from the Chat Service by typing in the correct keyword. For a period of one month, from March 18 to April 18, Globe Handyphone will be charging a promo rate for its Globe Mobile Chat Service of P1.00 across all its plans for every successful message sent to '2323'. CAIHaE After this period, Globe Handyphone Plan subscribers will be charged P2.00 for every successful message sent. Plan subscribers will also have a separate line in their bill under the Globe Mobile Chat Service for them to know how many messages were sent and the charge for these. For Globe Handyphone Prepaid Plus subscribers, meanwhile, a P2.50 charge for every message successfully sent to '2323' will be decremented from their balance after the promo period.
