Gentlemen : We reply to your request for comment on the news article captioned "SMC to swap shares with big foreign beer firm" published in the April 5, 1999 issue of Philippine Daily Inquirer (p. B7). We confirm that SMC is exploring a possible alliance with a number of foreign beer companies over the Company's offshore beer subsidiaries in China and possibly in the region.
