March 17, 1999 PSE CIRCULAR FOR BROKERS NO. 515-99 March 17, 1999 RIGHTPAK INKS TECHNICAL AGREEMENT WITH BRITISH FIRM Rightpak International Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of San Miguel Corporation producing flexibles packaging, has entered into a five-year technical assistance agreement with Rexam Specialty Food Packaging, Ltd., a strategic business sector of Rexam PLC of England. The agreement, was signed by Rightpak president Enrique A. Gomez and Rexam Specially Food Packaging sector director John Williams. Under the terms of the agreement, Rexam will transfer and license its advanced barrier vacuum metallizing technology to Rightpak. The latter can now produce Rexam-branded specialty metallized films. Aside from providing adequate product protection, vacuum metallized flexible packages are more cost-effective and more environment-friendly than foil-based ones. As such, vacuum metallized flexibles have become the preferred packages in Europe's food and personal/health care product markets. Two of the largest users of barrier laminates are the food and personal/health care industries, particularly in Europe. Barrier metallized laminates are often used for pouches, and one-way, disposable sachets. With these developments, industry users can expect a wider choice of cost-effective, high quality flexible packages. Rexam PLC is a global leader in high-performance. Some of Rexam's other lines are injection-molded plastic products for beauty packaging and health care, rotary thermo-formed containers for dairy products (such as margarine)and blister packages for pharmaceutical products. Rexam has been at the forefront of vacuum metallizing technology for 30 years and has made considerable advance in its application.
