First introduced in the country by Globe last January for its Globe Handyphone cellular phone service, WAP is an evolution to third generation (3G) technology that empowers users of mobile or wireless devices to easily access and interact with information and services instantly. In offering WAP services, GLOBE TELECOM has put up its own WAP home page for its subscribers. The Globe WAP page presently features CNN.com among Globe's WAP-ready sites, a WAP site produced and maintained by worldwide news leader CNN. Through the CNN.com WAP site, Globe Handyphone subscribers who have WAP-capability can have instant access to CNN breaking news, world news, regional news, world business news, global market updates, world entertainment news, world sports updates, weather news and travel calendars. CNN updates the CNN.com WAP site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. News headlines are updated every hour; market information is updated every 15 minutes during the trading day, and sports scores and weather forecasts are updated regularly throughout the day. Breaking news, meanwhile, are presented as they happen. In addition to CNN, Globe Handyphone will also soon be deploying other WAP- ready sites intended for e-commerce. E-commerce services which Globe will be offering through WAP include such services as mobile banking, ticketing and pizza ordering. Globe will also make information services such as traffic updates and movie guides available through its WAP service. Globe, in addition, will make -mail services available through WAP. Aside from CNN, Globe WAP subscribers can also access other exciting WAP- ready sites like Wireless Games, Room 33 and Wap.citiky. Globe Handyphone subscribers can avail of WAP by subscribing to the service and using WAP-capable cellular handsets currently offered by Globe.
