De Guia Assistant Manager Disclosure Department Philippine Stock Exchange PSE Center, Exchange Road Ortigas Center, Pasig City Dear Ms. De Guia, This is in connection with the two news articles that saw print in two newspapers today, namely the Philippine Daily Inquirer ("Banco de Oro, Chinabank merger seen") and the Business World ("Merger seen behind active China Bank stock trades"). The management of China Banking Corporation is not aware of any formal negotiations regarding the merger of China Bank and Banco de Oro at the present time. The stock transactions during the two trading days referred to account for less than 5 percent of the 20.97 million total outstanding shares of China Bank.
