October 26, 1999 PSE CIRCULAR FOR BROKERS NO. 2734-99 MS. LUISA W. BUENAVENTURA Supervisor, Disclosure Department Philippine Stock Exchange PSE Center, Exchange Road Ortigas Center Pasig City Dear Ms. Buenaventura, This is in connection with the two news articles, the first in the October 22, 1999 issue of Manila Standard ("Banco De Oro, China Bank merger seen") and the second in the October 23, 1999 issue of the Philippine Star ("Banco de Oro, China Banking Corp to merge"). The two stories are almost identical, particularly in the first four paragraphs and the last paragraph. Both stories also carried the Associated Press (AP) byline. The management of China Banking Corporation is not aware of any formal negotiations regarding the merger of China Bank and Banco de Oro at the present time, although we note that Mr. Henry Sy, Sr. may have conveyed such an option to the other shareholders of China Banking Corporation.
