De Guia Assistant Manager Disclosure Department Philippine Stock Exchange 4/F PSE Center, Exchange Road Ortigas Center, Pasig City Dear Ms. De Guia, We refer to your faxed letter dated February 1, 2000 requiring our comments on the news article "Equitable seen issuing $100M in bonds" published in today's issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. The issuance of the convertible bonds is only one of the various options that the BANK is exploring to finance its operating requirements. There is nothing definite yet in any of these options. LibLex Also. there has been no change in the Bank's plan to invite a strategic investor to take significant stake in the merged bank. The Bank had made this plan known to the public as early as last year. So far, the Bank sees no reason to warrant a change of such plan. We trust that we have made our position clear on the matter.
