September 30, 1999 PSE CIRCULAR FOR BROKERS NO. 2465-99 PLDT Telstra Y2K Test Successful PLDT Announces Successful Year 2000 Test With Major Australian Carrier PLDT today announced the successful completion of a recent test program with Australian based operator Telstra. The test was several months in planning and carried out over three days. The tests were designed to detect any potential sensitivity to the Y2K millennium bug in the voice communications facilities between PLDT and Telstra. prcd "After establishing the dedicated test link between the two carriers, our joint test plan was executed without error or failure and the tests were completed within the original target dates," PLDT Executive Vice President Antonio R. Samson said. "The tests were designed to highlight any date sensitivity in voice (IDD), ISDN, and Operator Assisted calls between the two carriers over a range of the most critical Y2K dates. PLDT used the full range of its dedicated test exchange equipment, and established a networks with Sampaloc international gateway, Dansalan training exchange, and the test exchanges at the Pasay Center. All equipment functioned correctly and the test calls completed with 100% success." This was the first of three major International tests PLDT have scheduled. Additional test programs are planned with SingTel and with AT&T in the US. "Testing with an Australian carrier was very important to us Samson said. "Not only is it a major telephone route for us, but Australia will be one of the first countries in the world to be impacted by the millennium bug at the end of this year." LibLex
