September 25, 1998 PSE CIRCULAR FOR BROKERS NO. 2215-98 September 24, 1998 NEW SMC BOARD MEMBERS NAMED Four nominees of the Presidential Commission on Good Government were elected to the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) board of directors. The new board members, Dr. Raul P. de Guzman, business executive Alan Lopez Lee, Atty. Benjamin P. Paulino, and Dr. Hermogenes L. Tantoco, attended the SMC board meeting at the company's head office complex in Mandaluyong City today. The outgoing directors are Julieta C. Bertuben, Tirso D. Antiporda, Jr. Victor S. Ziga and Tomas R. Padilla. The other members of the SMC board are Eduardo M. Cojuangco, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer, Francisco C. Eizmendi, Jr., president and chief operating officer, Estelito P. Mendoza, Manuel M. Cojuangco, Gabriel L. Villareal, Faustino F. Galang, Carlos A. Arellano, Federico C. Pascual and Ide C. Tillah. Dr. de Guzman is presently a Presidential adviser for development administration and a professor emeritus at the College of Public Administration, UP Diliman. He also served as the Chancellor of UP Los Baos in 1985-1991. He has a PhD in Government from the Florida State University, and was the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) awardee for public administration in 1965. Lee is in the electronics and consumer durables business as chairman of the board and president of Kassel Ventures, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Homespark and of ALEE Ventures (formerly Concorde Marketing). Prior to this, he spend close to 30 years in Philips Philippines, serving in various capacities in sales and marketing until he became vice president and general manager in its consumer products division in 1991-96. Atty. Paulino is the current president and chairman of the board of trustees of the Philippine School of Business Administration in Quezon City which he co-founded in 1964. He was a member of the faculty of the University of the East from 1956 to 1963. He was among the topnotchers in the bar exams in 1954, after earning his law degree from the University of the East, and Associate in Arts from the University of Sto. Tomas. Dr. Tantoco, a medical doctor who earned his degree from Manila Central University, is a director of Greenline Envirotech Philippines. He also has a degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of the East. He is a life member of the Fellows Philippine Surgeons and the Philippine Medical Association, Rizal Chapter.
