July 27, 1999 PSE CIRCULAR FOR BROKERS NO. 1858-99 SUBJECT : Union Bank of the Philippines Union Bank of the Philippines ("UBP") clarified to the Exchange a news article entitled "Merger of BPI, Far East and Union Bank in works" published in the July 27, 1999 issue of the Business World, and the Philippine Daily Inquirer's article on the alleged SSS divestment of its shares. UBP, in a letter to the Exchange, stated that: " . . .please be informed that there are no on-going merger talks of the bank with any other banks in the country. . . " For your information. (SGD.)
