July 30, 1998 PSE CIRCULAR FOR BROKERS NO. 1776-98 July 29, 1998 EIZMENDI REMAINS AS SMC PRESIDENT San Miguel Corporation today clarified that Francisco C. Eizmendi, Jr. remains the company's president and chief operating officer, contrary to a newspaper report. At the same time, San Miguel denied that SMCs management has an overall plan to "cleanse" the food, beverage and packaging firm of links to the family of its former chairman and CEO, Andres Soriano III. There is simply no such "cleansing" program, and the report has absolutely no basis, the company statement said. The SMC statement reiterated earlier remarks of its Chairman and CEO Eduardo Cojuangco, Jr. that he would like to see all SMC employees working together to make SMC stronger. "Let us put the past behind us. We are all San Miguel employees. Let us work together for the interest of the corporation and the stockholders," he said.
