Angeles Assistant Gentlemen : In reference to Your letter dated June 18, 1999, Please be informed that Far East Bank and Trust Company ("FEBTC") is unaware and has not received any Written notice of the plan of any of FEBTC's mayor shareholder groups to sell or dispose of its shares in the FEBTC. In fact, Sakura Bank had already issued a statement published in the Papers that its FFBTC shares are not up for sale. FEBTC has been its important long-term strategic partner in the Philippines and a crucial vehicle in servicing its Japanese clients in the Philippines. Philamlife has also confirmed that there is no plan to dispose of its FEBTC shares. We shall apprise you of any development as soon as we shall have received appropriate advice. Thank you.
