June 3, 1998 PSE CIRCULAR FOR BROKERS NO. 1234-98 June 3, 1998 Philippine Stock Exchange PSE Center, Exchange Road Ortigas Center, Pasig City Fax No. 636-08-09 Gentlemen : With reference to the letter of Mr. Isidro C. Alcantara dated 1 June 1998 regarding the news item entitled "Victorias set to close down" published in the May 29, 1998 issue of the Manila Bulletin, please be informed that the "close down" is a normal business operation, which is usually done after milling all the canes in the district, to give way to off-season repairs in preparation for the next milling season which usually starts in September or October. This has been done in previous years and will also be undertaken in subsequent years, and is likewise done by all other sugar mills in the country . cda The impression that VMC was set to "close down" is totally unfounded.
