Grace de Guia Listing and Disclosure Group Ladies and Gentlemen : We refer to your fax letter requesting for written confirmation/clarification on the news article captioned "NTT to infuse $300M into PLDT, published in the May 22, 1999 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. We advise that the Company is indeed in search of a long-term strategic investor among international telecommunications companies to increase its competitiveness in the Philippine telecommunications market. One of the potential strategic investors is Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation ("NTT"). However, at present, the Company is still in the process of evaluating the potential strategic investors and defining the terms and conditions of any investment to be made.
