PLDT Y2K Test Successful

May 24, 1999 PSE CIRCULAR FOR BROKERS NO. 1176-99 PRESS RELEASE PLDT Y2K Test Successful PLDT recently announced the successful Y2K inter-carrier call simulation testing between PLDT, Smart and Globe. Several roll-over trial calls from December 31, 1999 to January 1, 2000 were successfully made for landline, to landline, landline to mobile and vice versa, mobile to mobile and dial up data modern services including fax, PLDT Executive Vice President Antonio R. Samson said. LLjur Other calls for risk dates such as February 28 to 29, 2000 were also successfully completed. "These test calls were made to assure telephone users that there will not be any problem for all types of calls to these three participating Telecom Service Providers at the turn of the century or the millennium bug problem," Samson said. The test was observed by representatives from the Presidential Commission on Year 2000. An observation report will be submitted to the Commission to document the successful inter-carrier testings. LLphil Earlier, PLDT assured the public of its Y2K readiness as a well-organized and well-funded program has been in place since mid 1997. "PLDT is on target for all its services to be Y2K ready by the end of second quarter this year," Samson said. The program costs PLDT about $100 million which involves improvements in software system, work stations and equipment, among others.
