September 30, 1987 PROCLAMATION NO. 163 DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM OCTOBER 4 TO 10, 1987, AS "PLANT PROTECTION WEEK" WHEREAS, pests are responsible for considerable damage to crops thus contributing to worldwide hunger and malnutrition; WHEREAS, a worldwide concerted effort at plant protection is imperative to feed our hungry millions and thus maximize their contribution to nation building; WHEREAS, to focus attention on the problem, provide a scientific and technological forum to exchange views on specific aspects of plant protection, and provide solutions to this problem plaguing mankind, the International Congress on Plant Protection (ICPP) is held every four (4) years; and acd WHEREAS, in order to dramatize the need for adequate plant protection in developing countries, the 11th ICPP is being held in Manila from October 5-10, 1987: NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare October 4-10, 1987, as "Plant Protection Week", and enjoin all public and private offices and institutions to encourage and grant official sanction to their personnel concerned to attend and participate in the 11th International Congress on Plant Protection in the interest of advancing our science and technology on plant protection. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed. DONE in the City of Manila, this 30th day of September, in the year of Our Lord, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Seven.
