October 4, 1994 MEMORANDUM ORDER NO. 237 AUTHORIZING PROVISIONAL EXEMPTION FROM PAYMENT OF TRAVEL TAX TO ALL PASSENGERS BY SEA ORIGINATING FROM ALL INTERNATIONAL PORTS IN MINDANAO TO ANY DESTINATION WITHIN BIMP-EAGA (BRUNEI DARRUSALAM, INDONESIA, MALAYSIA, PHILIPPINES-EAST ASIAN GROWTH AREA) AND CREATING AN AD-HOC COMMITTEE TO UNDERTAKE A STUDY ON APPROPRIATE TRAVEL TAX MEASURE AND POLICY IN SAID AREA For reasons of national interest, all passengers by sea originating from all international ports in Mindanao to any destination within BIMP-EAGA (Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines-East Asian Growth Area) are hereby exempted from payment of travel tax for a period of six (6) months from the effectivity of this order, unless sooner revoked, pursuant to Executive Order No. 283, dated July 25, 1987. There is hereby created an Ad-Hoc Committee, composed of the Presidential Assistant for Mindanao as Chairman and representatives from the Departments of Tourism, Foreign Affairs, Finance, National Defense, Transportation and Communications, Trade and Industry, and Agriculture as Members, to undertake a study on appropriate travel tax measure and policy in the BIMP-EAGA. The Ad-Hoc Committee is further directed to submit its report to the Office of the President within sixty (60) days from the issuance of this Order. This Memorandum Order shall take effect immediately. DONE in the City of Manila, this 4th day of October, in the year of Our Lord, Nineteen Hundred and Ninety-Four.
