Granting Exemption to the Metro Manila Film Festival New Wave Student Section Entries from Assessment and Payment of 10% Amusement Tax

December 15, 2015 By unanimous vote of the Sangguniang Panlungsod members who are present, the following City Ordinance was enacted on third and final reading: MAKATI CITY ORDINANCE NO. 075-15 Authors: Councilors N.S. Pasia, F.T. Eusebio, M.A.S.J. Casal-Uy, N.S. Yabut, Jr., and V.T. Sese AN ORDINANCE GRANTING EXEMPTION TO THE METRO MANILA FILM FESTIVAL NEW WAVE STUDENT SECTION ENTRIES FROM ASSESSMENT AND PAYMENT OF 10% AMUSEMENT TAX THAT WILL BE HELD ON DECEMBER 17-24, 2015 ONLY, SUBJECT TO APPLICABLE LAWS, RULES AND REGULATIONS WHEREAS , the Metro Manila Film Festival Philippines has been handling and organizing the Metro Manila Film Festival since 1975; WHEREAS , this year, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) seeks to continue the tradition of supporting film-making through a bigger, better and bolder New Wave Section. In addition to the Short Film competition, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is also holding its 3rd animation Competition for talented artists nationwide; WHEREAS , the Five (5) student short films, Five (5) animation films and Five (5) full feature films will be shown at Cinema 1 and 3 of Glorietta 4 Cinema, Makati City from December 17-24, 2015; WHEREAS , the City Government of Makati grants exemption for the last three years (2012-2014) to Metro Manila Film Festival New Wave Section from payment of the 10% amusement tax. Further, the equivalent amount of this tax exemption shall be fully remitted to the participating filmmakers; WHEREAS , Section 192 of the Local Government Code (RA 7160) states: " Section 192. Authority to Grant Tax Exemption Privileges. Local government units may, through ordinances duly approved, grant tax exemptions, incentives or reliefs under such terms and conditions as they may deem necessary ." NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED, AS IT IS HEREBY ENACTED, BY THE SANGGUNIANG PANLUNGSOD OF MAKATI, METRO MANILA, BY VIRTUE OF THE POWERS VESTED IN IT BY LAW, IN SESSION ASSEMBLED , that: SECTION 1. Exemption to the Metro Manila Film Festival New Wave Student Section entries from assessment and payment of 10% amusement tax that will be held on December 17-24, 2015 only is hereby granted, subject to applicable laws, rules and regulations. SECTION 2. Let copy of this Ordinance be furnished the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) City Budget Office, Accounting Department City Treasurer's Office and other departments, offices and agencies concerned for their information, guidance and reference.
