July 4, 2012 BUREAU OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT FINANCE OPINION Ms. Marita A. Calaje Acting City Treasurer Pasig City Madam : This pertains to your letter dated March 23, 2012 which was referred to this Bureau by the Office of Hon. Carlo A. Carag, Undersecretary, Revenue Operations and Legal Affairs Group, Department of Finance, Manila, requesting clarification on the proper interpretation of the provisions of Republic Act No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code (LGC) of 1991, concerning the exemption from the imposition of the additional ad valorem tax on idle lands (Sec. 237); and the advertisement and sale in public auction of real property (Sec. 260). With regard to Section 237 of the LGC, please be informed that the Bureau is developing guidelines pertaining to Idle Land Tax imposition which, among others, shall address your concerns.
