Cajucom President Gentlemen : This refers to your letter dated June 8, 1995 stating that the University of the East will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary in September, 1996; that one of the projects being planned to commemorate the occasion is the purchase of a mobile dental unit to be used by your dental clinicians and faculty members for the University's outreach program-to give free dental treatment to the underprivileged in depressed areas not only in Metro Manila but in provinces that can be reached by the vehicle; that it is estimated that the cost of a mobile dental unit (a truck/van with dental chair, x-ray machine, sterilizer, and other basic equipment) is more than P3 million; that to raise part of that amount, you are embarking on two fund-raising activities, viz: cd 1. One performance of "Evita" scheduled on October 3, 1995 purchased from Repertory Philippines Foundation, Inc.; 2. A bingo night in August, 1996 to be held at the Christ the King Social Hall that tickets will be sold to U.E. Alumni faculty members and other personnel and friends; that the net proceeds will be deposited in a special account; and that the difference between the amount raised and the actual cost of the mobile dental unit will be borne by the University. In connection therewith, you are requesting exemption from any tax on your said fund raising activities. In reply thereto, please be informed that the proceeds to be derived by you in connection with the one performance of "Evita" scheduled on October 3, 1995 and a bingo night on August, 1996 to be held at Christ the King Social Hall, which shall be used to finance part of the cost of a mobile dental unit to be used for the University's outreach program are not subject to income, VAT and other percentage taxes.
