Use of Metric System of Weights and Measures in Contracts Deeds and Other Instruments

Rivera Attorney-at-Law 363 Quezon Boulevard Quiapo, Manila S i r : In reply to your letter dated March 27, 1958, I have the honor to inform you that, in accordance with Section 33 of the Revised Administrative Code, the metric system of weights and measures, with its recognized scales, shall be used in all contracts deeds, and other instruments publicly and officially attested and in all official documents except in the purchase and sale of manufactured lumber where the English system of measures may be employed and in ordering commodities or articles from abroad where such weights and measures may be employed as are commonly used in the country to which the order is sent or from which the goods are shipped. Therefore, except in those cases where the English system of measures may be used, only weights and measures of the metric system can be officially sealed and licensed.
