Box 781, Manila, 1099 Attention: British Embassy Project This refers to your letter dated January 8, 1993, in behalf of your client, The British Embassy Manila, relative to its request for confirmation that the proceeds it derived from coordinating a charitable fashion event are not subject to income and business taxes. It is represented that on February 8 and 9, 1993, the British Embassy coordinated a charitable fashion show at the Shangri-La's EDSA Plaza Hotel aimed to raise funds for the children's emergency unit of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH); that the participants therein rendered their services free of charge; that since PGH reports directly to the Office of the President of the Philippines, a notarial cheque was presented to His Excellency President Fidel V. Ramos on the Gala Night when he and his First lady Mrs. Amelita Ramos attended the same on February 9, 1993. In reply thereto, please be informed that the proceeds to be derived by the British Embassy from its coordinated charitable fashion show for the purpose of raising funds for the children's emergency unit at the PGH are not subject to income and business taxes.
