Vaswani Gentlemen : In reply to your letter dated April 25, 1980, I have the honor to inform you that your importation of "Joss Sticks", a stem-like stick made of reed (bamboo) which is covered with wax and used for performing religious rites, is subject to the 10% advance sales tax, the tax to be based on the landed cost thereof plus 25% mark-up, pursuant to Section 193(b), in relation to Section 199, both of the Tax Code of 1977, as amended. cdta Very truly yours, RUBEN B.
