January 21, 1958 BIR RULING NO. 041-58 Major Jose O. Padilla Finance Officer, PN Headquarters, Philippine Navy Dewey Boulevard, Manila S i r : In reply to your request for exemption from the payment of the documentary stamp tax on PNB checks to be used exclusively by the Philippine Navy, I have the honor to inform you that under Section 236 of the National Internal Revenue Code, checks issued by the Government are exempt from the documentary stamp tax.
