Exemption from Specific Tax Importation of Raw Stocks of High Contrast Negatives and Film Positives for the Manila International Film Festival

February 3, 1983 BIR RULING NO. 011-83 Gentlemen : This refers to your letter dated October 18, 1983 requesting exemption from specific tax on your importation of raw stocks of high contrast negatives and film positives to be used in the forthcoming Manila International Film Festival '83 scheduled for January 24 to February 4, 1983. cdta It is represented that the Festival will consist of four modules Film Market, Films in Competition, Films for Exhibition, showcasing a "Focus on the Philippines" and a "Focus on Asia", and a Film Symposium; that the Screening Committee and Technical Committee are selecting Filipino films to be included in the showcase which will have to undergo immediate reprinting and subtitling in English and French, and the imported raw stocks high contrast negatives and film positives will be used for this purpose; that after the festival, the new prints will then be endorsed to the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines' Film Archives for storage and/or for other festivals/films weeks. In reply, please be informed that your request is hereby granted under Section 10 of Executive Order No. 770 dated January 22, 1982, to wit: "SEC. 10. Exemption from taxes . . . xxx xxx xxx "The Cinema, its assets, acquisitions, income and its operations and transactions shall be exempt from any and all taxes, fees, charges, imposts, licenses and assessments, direct or indirect imposed by the government or any of its political subdivisions, including import taxes, duties and fees." cdtech Very truly yours, (SGD.)
