Mendoza Sales Manager Gentlemen : This refers to your letter dated October 1, 1997 requesting for the issuance of a new BIR Certification regarding the legality of using magnetic and electronic media for storing books of accounts and other accounting records. In reply, please be informed that this Office has been consistent in its opinion that a company may use magnetic and electronic media or other methods for storing books of accounts and other accounting records other than the traditional method as provided for under Title IX (Compliance Requirements) Chapter 1 (Keeping of Books of Accounts and Records) of the Tax Code, as amended, but subject to the same rules and regulations as to their keeping, translation, production and inspection as are applicable to the traditional books of accounts (BIR Ruling No. M-105-96 dated November 26, 1996) aSDHCT Very truly yours, (SGD.)
